When sending and receiving emails through an email account hosted by iTech Developers, you may have recently run into problems when "sending" emails.

Possible Problems Include:

• Cannot get emails to leave your Outbox (not sending at all)
• Email delivery appears to be very slow (not sending quickly)

There are a few very easy fixes for these problems

Many Internet Service Providers (ISP's - the company you use to connect your computer or network to the Internet) block or restrict the sending of emails through "other" mail servers. If you are using your domain mail server (mail.YourDomain.com) for sending email (not receiving - but sending), you should consider making the following changes to your email settings for the SMTP / or / Outgoing Mail Server only.

NOTE: Do not make any changes to your POP3 or Incoming email settings -- only to your Outgoing or SMTP settings.

• Open your email program
• Find where you can access and edit your email account settings
  • In Outlook and Outlook Express these setting are located in the Tools Menu under either "Accounts" or "Email Accounts"
  • Because each email program is different we could not possibly include instructions for finding and editing your account settings for each and every program - so you must be able to find these settings on your own
     
• Now apply one of the following two fixes:
  • Do not apply both!
  • Do not mix the settings from one with the other!
  • If you apply one and it does not work - you must reverse your settings before trying the other!
  • Only apply one of these two fixes ... not both ... the choice is yours:

Option 1:

Adjust your outgoing settings to fool your ISP and bypass any interference:

• Select the email account you wish to edit (the one you're having problems sending on) and access the Advanced Settings
  • You may have to push a few buttons to find your way into these settings
• Find where your email program shows the "ports" being used to access "Outgoing / SMTP" Mail Server.
• Change your Outgoing or SMTP Mail Server Port from 25 to 26
• Now, be sure to save your settings by clicking OK or APPLY!
• That should do the trick!

Option 2:

Send all outgoing mail through your ISP - and not through your domain mail server:

• Select the email account you wish to edit (the one you're having problems sending on) and find the Outgoing or SMTP mail settings
  • You may have to push a few buttons to find your way into these settings
• Change your Outgoing or SMTP mail server to the address that was given to you by your ISP when you signed up for your Dial up / DSL / or Cable Internet services.
  • If you do not know this address -- you may want to contact your ISP.
• After updating the above setting -- Find the additional settings in your email account which allow you to enter your login information for this new Outgoing mail server.
  • You will need to enter the same login and password that you use to connect to the web.
• Save your settings!
• That should do the trick!
